We first rough grade with ¾ crushed limestone. We then fine grade with limestone screenings. Please note that we use a vibratory tamper to compact the subgrade prior to base construction and use the same tamper throughout. In the case of putting greens we take extra precautions. We install a geotextile to separate the sub base from the crushed stone base. We also stabilize the sub base with Portland when required. We compact our base to 90% proctor. If a commercial job, the architect will stipulate the depth of base and type of base material.
The Ultra Base System is gaining in popularity as it helps with drainage in difficult areas as well as grade stability and ball roll consistency in Golf Green applications.
